EC has launched two infringement procedures against Romania in environment

European Commission requests Romania "submit details on the implementation of EU legislation into national law in two different areas of the waste packaging waste and end of life vehicles."

"The revised Directive on packaging, which extends the scope of the original Directive, clarifying the distinction between what constitutes packaging and what not to reduce packaging waste, to be transposed into national law by 30 September 2013," reads the EC .

According to him, Romania has not complied with this term and as a result, on 29 November 2013 was sent a letter of formal notice.

It states that in January 2014 Romania responded stating that it is drafting a government decision. Considering, however, that, so far, the Commission has not notified any action it launched an infringement (reasoned opinion).

A second infringement procedure refers to amend EU standards ELV. Change to be transposed into national law by 22 August 2013. Having received no notification in September 2013, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice.

According to the EC, Romania responded that appropriate legislation is in preparation, but "so far received no any notification, the Commission sent a reasoned opinion now", and Bucharest has two months to respond, otherwise they might be sent to the Court of Justice.
