LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is internationally recognized as an emblem of excellence in green building.
The certification consists in a program of independent examination by others, of the buildings, to establish the degree of compliance with environmental sustainability strategies. The buildings, subject to a certification process, receive points according to the degree of fulfillment of a predetermined set of criteria relating to: sustainable site development, water saving, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
The premises and loans offered varies depending on the established evaluation system, this decision being taken by the team responsible for the certification process.
According to the USGBC data, globally, nearly 1 billion square feet of space is in progress to obtain a LEED certification, while the cumulative building area daily certified is about 140.000m2.
