Some companies have started to organize the official certification of buildings, but for now just a production hall and an office building have such an official title in the county. Most of the initiatives announced are coming for office buildings.
The Romanian Green Building Council (CRCV) announced the finalists after two rounds of judging, from 6 and 7 June, the winners of each category being announced in an award gala. "This year’s competition has seen a significant increase in enrollment and an impressive list of projects, companies, educational and institutional activities" said the organizers. At the” Green Project of the Year” category, Cluj has a representative on the list of major projects: Studium Green Campus, next to Sky Tower and Atra Doftanei pension. The apartment building in Gheorgheni neighborhood, that was recently built and "greened", is part of a complex with over 400 apartments.
Amera Group is on the short list in the “Sustainable company of the year” category. The office building, developed by associations from Amera, obtained last year the LEED Gold certification, being the first and still the only officially recognized green building in Cluj-Napoca. In the office building are still available spaces, but the owners expect to reach 100% occupancy in the fall. The 11-storey building, located in the north-west exit of Cluj-Napoca, on the former industrial site of Baciu village, has a built surface of 9,000 sqm and a 5,800 sqm leasable floor area.
DAS Engineering company from Cluj, specialized in plumbing, reached among the finalists of the green contest, with NAI Romania at the “Green Service Provider of the Year” category. Cluj-Napoca’s City Hall fights Giurgiu and the City Hall of District 2 from Bucharest for the title of “Government Initiative in the Field of Green Buildings”.
Last year, through a project initiated by UDMR local counselors, the municipality decided to reduce by 50% the tax for owners of green buildings. Amera Tower is currently the only project developed in the municipality that qualifies for the decision taken in the city.
Cluj came with three buildings on the list of the greenest buildings in Romania, a CRCV analysis, NAI Romania and the Construction21.eu platform. Just one building in Cluj-Napoca has a formal certification recognized by an internationally system, Amera Tower, and the two other buildings in the city, from the 67 buildings in the country list, are entering the energy class A. On the list of the greenest buildings in Romania, analysis mention America Tower, the residential Studium Green Campus and a school, Cluj Transylvania College, the last ones efficient in energy consumption (energy class A), but with no official international green building certification under one of the globally recognized systems : LEED (U.S.), BREEAM (United Kingdom), DGNB (Germany).
The county has now only two officially green buildings: the former Nokia halls (now De'Longhi) and the Amera Tower office building. According to the Romania Green Building Council (RoGBC) Transylvania, a number of developers with projects in Cluj have in preparation the certification under one of the globally recognized systems, LEED, BREEAM, DGNB. At the end of the year, Cluj could have 4-5 certified buildings, is estimating Dorin Beu, director of Transylvania branch of RoGBC. Most of the announced initiatives in this area belong to office developers: The Office and Liberty Technology Park business center owners have started the work certification for the buildings still on site, but Emerson and Transilvania Bank want "officially green" for their own working offices or already standing, in Cluj.
