Bulgarians are preparing a rebellion against the shale gas exploration in Romania

Protest organizers say they plan to rebel against capital and in favor of protecting nature. One of the protesters, Sintiya Nedyalkov, quoted by Standard publication, says she will dedicate her entire life to impose a complete moratorium on shale gas exploration and exploitation.
Tuesday, the Agency for Environmental Protection in Romania, issued permits for U.S. giant Chevron, for shale gas exploration in two blocks near the border with Bulgaria.
The permits for exploration of shale gas reservoirs using the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) have been awarded for the blocks in Costinesti and Vama Veche (situated right on the border with Bulgaria), according to the Romanian Ministry of Environment.
The permits give Chevron green light to carry out controlled explosions at a depth of 10-15 meters over an area of 1,800 square kilometers.
Fracking technology is a thorny issue in many countries, including the U.S., being even banned in some countries (eg France).

Bulgarians living in the area near the border with Romania, have expressed concern about raising Romanian moratorium on shale gas exploration, claiming that the exploration and exploitation of Romania will affect Bulgaria's border areas, where they will destroy the soil, will poison the waters and will lead to depopulation of the region.
Bulgarian Parliament adopted a moratorium on January 18, 2012, on an undetermined period, on the use of hydraulic fracturing technology. Thus, Bulgaria has become the second EU country to ban drilling after shale gas.
A day earlier, on January 17, 2012, the Bulgarian government canceled the exploration permit granted by Chevron for the shale gas deposits in northeastern of Bulgaria, citing the insufficient evidence of safety operation in hydraulic fracturing method.
