\n\t\t\tUPDATE<\/span> 4:34 p.m.<\/span> –<\/span> blockade<\/span> continues<\/span>,<\/span> after more than<\/span> 8 hours of<\/span> protest.<\/span> Activists<\/span> were legitimate<\/span> by the police<\/span> received<\/span> summons<\/span> to leave the place<\/span>, but<\/span> they remain<\/span> in position.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t25<\/span> Greenpeace activists<\/span> from seven countries<\/span> (<\/span>Romania<\/span>, Hungary<\/span>, Austria<\/span>,<\/span> Czech Republic<\/span>, Poland<\/span>, Slovakia<\/span> and Germany) have<\/span> protested peacefully<\/span> and<\/span> said today<\/span> quarantine zone<\/span> around<\/span> the<\/span> probe<\/span> Chevron<\/span> Pungesti<\/span> blocking<\/span> the zone<\/span> and<\/span> banned<\/span> hydraulic fracturing<\/span> for<\/span> extracting<\/span> shale gas<\/span>.<\/span> The activists<\/span> formed a<\/span> human chain<\/span> to<\/span> enter<\/span> the perimeter<\/span> Chevron<\/span> were<\/span> linked<\/span> fence surrounding the<\/span> probe<\/span> and<\/span> banners<\/span> with<\/span> messages<\/span>:<\/span> "<\/span>Pungesti<\/span> Quarantine<\/span> Area<\/span> anti<\/span>–<\/span>Chevron<\/span>", "<\/span> hydraulic fracturing<\/span> NOT <\/span>", " Stop<\/span> the abuse<\/span> of<\/span> Pungesti<\/span> "<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t \n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\n\t\t\tIn April<\/span>, the company<\/span> installed the first<\/span> probe<\/span> Chevron<\/span> for<\/span> shale gas<\/span> exploration<\/span>, despite<\/span> local<\/span> protests<\/span>,<\/span> which lasted<\/span> for months.<\/span> The company<\/span> plans to<\/span> install<\/span> wells<\/span> and<\/span> in<\/span> neighboring villages<\/span> and they received<\/span> the environmental<\/span> agreements<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>P\u0103ltini\u015f (B\u0103ce\u015fti), Sili\u015ftea (Punge\u015fti), Popeni (G\u0103ge\u015fti ) and<\/span> Puiesti<\/span> where<\/span> Vaslui<\/span> County Council<\/span> that  has granted the<\/span> building permit<\/span>s.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t \n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\n\t\t\tSo far<\/span>,<\/span> 11<\/span> local councils<\/span> in Vaslui County<\/span>, namely:<\/span> <\/span>Alexandru Vlahu\u021bã, Bãcani, Coroie\u0219ti, Dume\u0219ti, Gherghe\u0219ti, Pochidia, Perieni, Pogana, Puie\u0219ti, Tutova and <\/span><\/span>Vinderei,<\/span> have<\/span> adopted the decision<\/span> to ban<\/span> shale gas<\/span> exploration and exploitation<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t \n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\n\t\t\tBoth<\/span> technology<\/span> and<\/span> technology<\/span> exploration<\/span> and<\/span> extraction<\/span> of shale gas<\/span> through<\/span> hydraulic<\/span> fractionation<\/span> are extremely<\/span> dangerous and polluting<\/span>,<\/span> with consequences<\/span> that persist<\/span> in soil, water<\/span> and<\/span> the<\/span> organisms that live<\/span> in the affected areas<\/span>.<\/span> The protest action<\/span> is<\/span> a response to the<\/span> unprecedented<\/span> measure<\/span> taken by the<\/span> Romanian<\/span> Government<\/span> on<\/span> restricting the rights<\/span> of a community.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t \n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t"<\/span>On<\/span> October 16, 2013<\/span>, the Romanian Government<\/span> through its institutions<\/span> and<\/span> allowed<\/span> to<\/span> establish"<\/span> special<\/span> security<\/span> zone<\/span> "<\/span>in<\/span> Pungesti<\/span> the expense<\/span> of protecting the environment<\/span> and its inhabitants<\/span>.<\/span> To obtain<\/span> "<\/span>cheap gas<\/span>"<\/span> Government<\/span> defends<\/span> corporate interests<\/span> instead<\/span> to defend the rights<\/span> of its citizens.<\/span><\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tGreenpeace<\/span> has set up<\/span> special<\/span> quarantine<\/span> area<\/span> Anti<\/span>–<\/span>Chevron<\/span> because of the dangers<\/span> to which it is<\/span> subject<\/span> to population<\/span> hydraulic fracturing<\/span> methods<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThis process<\/span> leads to<\/span> poisoning of<\/span> groundwater<\/span> and surface<\/span> poisoning<\/span> subsoil<\/span>, air and<\/span> increased<\/span> seismic risk<\/span>.<\/span> This<\/span> virus<\/span> of economic development<\/span> at any cost<\/span>,<\/span> without<\/span> regard for the<\/span> will of the people<\/span> and<\/span> protect the environment<\/span> minima<\/span> rule<\/span>, must end.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tAll<\/span> Chevron<\/span> Romania<\/span> received three<\/span> concession<\/span> agreements<\/span> for<\/span> petroleum<\/span> exploration<\/span> and development<\/span> – operation<\/span> for<\/span> perimeters<\/span> Adamclisi<\/span> Costine\u015fti<\/span> and<\/span> Vama<\/span> Veche<\/span> is located<\/span> in<\/span> Constanta.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tGreenpeace CEE<\/span> Romania<\/span>, along with other<\/span> non-governmental organizations<\/span> have<\/span> challenged<\/span> in court<\/span> the four<\/span> petroleum<\/span> concession<\/span> agreements<\/span> for exploration<\/span> \/ development<\/span> \/ exploitation<\/span> of shale gas<\/span> through<\/span> hydraulic<\/span> fracturing<\/span>,<\/span> Chevron<\/span> concluded<\/span> the obtaining<\/span> for<\/span> perimeters<\/span> Vama<\/span> Veche,<\/span> Adamclisi<\/span> Costine\u015fti<\/span> respectively<\/span> B\u0101rlad<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tHydraulic fracturing<\/span> is prohibited in<\/span> Bulgaria<\/span>, France<\/span> (<\/span>moratorium<\/span>), 15<\/span> U.S. states,<\/span> parts of<\/span> Canada<\/span>, Australia<\/span>, New Zealand<\/span>, Argentina<\/span>, Spain<\/span>, Italy<\/span>, Switzerland<\/span>, Austria<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn<\/span> Romania<\/span>,<\/span> several local councils<\/span> have given<\/span> decisions<\/span> to prohibit<\/span> fracturing<\/span>,<\/span> issued under<\/span> local government<\/span> law<\/span> environmental policy<\/span> decision<\/span> and the development of<\/span> the administrative unit<\/span>.<\/span> They were<\/span> challenged by<\/span> prefectures and<\/span> are pending in<\/span> the courts of<\/span> Vaslui,<\/span> Iasi<\/span>, Arad,<\/span> Bihor<\/span> and<\/span> Suceava<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn<\/span> America<\/span>,<\/span> on<\/span> 30 June 2014,<\/span> the highest court<\/span> of the State of<\/span> New<\/span> York<\/span> ruled that<\/span> local authorities<\/span> can issue<\/span> decisions<\/span> to ban<\/span> hydraulic fracturing<\/span> in<\/span> their right<\/span> legal<\/span> basis<\/span> for regulating the<\/span> use of land<\/span> in<\/span> urban<\/span> and economic<\/span> regulations<\/span>.<\/span> This decision<\/span> put in a<\/span> positive light<\/span> judgments<\/span> of<\/span> Local Councils<\/span> of<\/span> Romania<\/span> to ban<\/span> fracturing<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
