\n\tCoal consumption<\/span> grew by 3<\/span>% in<\/span> 2013,<\/span> an annual average of<\/span> 3.9%<\/span>, but<\/span> enough to put<\/span> the share<\/span> of coal in<\/span> world energy consumption<\/span> to 30%<\/span>,<\/span> the highest growth<\/span> rate since<\/span> 1970<\/span> to date.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year,<\/span> the United States had<\/span> the largest increase<\/span> in the world<\/span> oil production<\/span> for<\/span> the second consecutive year<\/span>, increasing by<\/span> 1.1 million<\/span> barrels per day.<\/span> Oil production<\/span> in the U.S.,<\/span> over 10<\/span> million barrels<\/span> per day<\/span> last year<\/span> reached its highest<\/span> level since<\/span> 1986.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tOil demand<\/span> in the U.S. has<\/span> also increased<\/span> last year<\/span> by 400,000<\/span> barrels per day<\/span>,<\/span> the fastest<\/span> from any<\/span> country<\/span> last year<\/span>, surpassing<\/span> China's demand<\/span> for the first<\/span> time in 15 years<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tOil<\/span> remains the<\/span> world leader,<\/span> with<\/span> 33<\/span>% of<\/span> global<\/span> energy demand<\/span>, but lost<\/span> market share<\/span> to<\/span> other fuels<\/span> for<\/span> the 14th<\/span> consecutive year.<\/span> Global oil<\/span> consumption<\/span> grew by 1.4<\/span>% in 2013<\/span>,<\/span> above<\/span> the historical average<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
