And they&#8217;re not alone&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After some favourable weather at the start of the year, Portugal joined this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/k.lenz.name\/LB\/?p=6525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ever expanding list of countries<\/a> producing more than 60% of their electricity from renewable sources. A round of applause for our Iberian friends, if you please \u2013 they managed 70% for three months straight!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Before we take a look at the other countries who&#8217;ve joined the 60% club, see if you can guess how many there&#8217;ll be, and who&#8217;s at the top of the league. Photo: Chris Zielecki<\/strong>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 60% club: bigger than you think<br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At the time of writing, there&#8217;s 45 countries in the 60% club. Sitting proud at the top of the pile is Albania, which produces a clean 100% of its electricity with renewable sources. Admittedly this is all through controversial hydroelectric power, but it&#8217;s clear proof that incredible results can be gained from renewable energy sources.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 These guys are also hoping to create 100,000 \u2018green collar\u2019 jobs by 2020 which is pretty impressive in our book, especially when considering the numerous political difficulties the country has faced in recent years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/add-energy.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Portugalia-70-la-suta-din-regenerabile-02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Portugalia 70 la suta din regenerabile 02\" src=\"http:\/\/add-energy.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Portugalia-70-la-suta-din-regenerabile-02-225x300.jpg\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\n\t\t<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hydropower in Portugal. Photo: Antonio Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The range of countries on the list is a real eye opener.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Through harnessing the natural power of their volcanoes, Iceland has also reached the 100% mark, and Norway (97%), Austria (74%) and Georgia (85%) aren\u2019t doing too shabbily either.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Further afield, Brazil (89%), New Zealand (73%) and Uruguay (62%) are flying the green flag and showing that, especially in New Zealand&#8217;s case, high consumption and renewable energy can exist hand in hand.\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are we there yet?<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And after the impressive work of other countries, you\u2019re probably wondering how our fair isle is getting along.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;re on 11%, if you\u2019re asking. Not bad, but still a long way to go before we can cosy up with our Iberian friends in the 60% club.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let\u2019s not get downhearted though: this 11% is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1010global.org\/uk\/2013\/01\/latest-stats-show-clean-energy-kicking-ass-again\">growing all the time<\/a> as we wake up to the potential of renewable energy, and last year&#8217;s increase was a whopping 39%.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Want to speed things up?
