Just like national governments, the EU has a budget which determines how much financing it can commit and pay to different policy areas.The EU plans its budgets for a period of seven years. This year, discussions are taking place about the next seven-year budget, or in EU terminology, “Multiannual Financial Framework” (MFF), which will run from 2014 to 2020.
